About Me
Like so many people, I came to the wine industry by accident. After graduating from Oxford University with an MA in English Literature, a fateful bottle of Giuseppe Mascarello's Monprivato 2003 was to end not only my nascent career in publishing, but to inspire a life-long love of wine, particularly from Italy.
Since 2011 I have worked in a variety of trade and commercial roles, full-time and freelance, working across marketing, copywriting, communication, buying and sales.
In 2016 I was awarded three scholarships for the WSET Diploma: the Graham's Port Scholarship, The Vintners' Cup and The Vintners' Scholarship for the top mark out of all graduates worldwide. I gained a Distinction in six of eight papers, including the Unit 3 tasting examination, and a Merit for the two remaining papers.
From 2018 to 2023 I was a company director at Theatre of Wine. I was responsible for helping the company to steer a successful course through the severe challenges of Brexit and COVID.
In 2023, I left to focus on my consultancy business and take on new projects, particularly in Italy and South Africa. I write and publish widely, including pieces in Decanter, Harpers Wine & Spirit, Drinks Retailing and The Buyer and I have my own Substack publication at jasondrinks.com.
That's about it. As well as keeping in touch with my work here, you can follow me on social media @jasonmillar to see what's new.
